Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has reportedly donated a sum of Rs 1.08 Crore to the families of twelve CRPF jawans, who were killed in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, in a Naxal ambush on March 11.

The actor was reportedly in close touch with Amit Lodha, the DIG of Jaisalmer sector north, in order to extend his help by offering Rs 9 Lacs per family of each martyred jawan.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also appreciated Kumar’s act.

Lodha confirmed that the actor has been very involved at a personal level when it comes to the wellbeing of our soldiers and their families.

“Akshay himself has been in touch with me and he keeps enquiring about incidents and when I told him about the Sukma incident he immediately told me he would like to contribute and do his bit for the families of the martyred jawans, we are all grateful to him for this kind gesture. ”  – Amit Lodha, IPS Officer

The CRPF troopers were out on road opening party (ROP) duty on March 11 when their convoy was ambushed by the naxals with automatic weapons and IEDs. The Maoists also grabbed 10 assault rifles and radio sets and escaped. The CRPF security column that was following the ROP heard the gunfire and rushed to engage the Maoists. CRPF said that their troops had retaliated very bravely and valiantly to defeat their nefarious designs.

Prime minister Narendra Modi had expressed grief over the martyrdom of CRPF personnel and home minister Rajnath Singh personally visited Chhattisgarh and discussed the security situation with state chief minister Raman Singh.

The actor has stepped forward to extend help to soldiers and their families on numerous occasions, including the recent Uri attack.
